My plants will never be too hot again!

Hi everyone, I just finished building a new evaporative cooler for my garden. It uses a small HVAC filter to filter the air before it runs threw four synthetic evaporative cooler pads, and then blows out my variable speed blower (180-300 cfm) so not only does it cool the air, it filters out dust, pollen and all kinds of bad stuff from entering the garden.

It's about 80 degrees in the house, and the cooler is blowing out 70 degree air, and it feels even colder than that on my skin because of the fan speed. With the fan at top speed it will draw all of the air in my bedroom threw it in about four minutes, so this cooler will definitely make an impact in the temperature of my bedroom which is usually the hottest room in the house.

Anyway, the tea plants are hangin' in there. I've been dealing with a pretty large population of fungus gnats coming from the cheap soil I used... next time I will mix my own soil-less mix. Also the regular camellia has started to get some brown spots on some of the leaves which I have to ask around about to try and learn how to save it, but I'm sure I will be able to save it. Also I preordered 40 tea seeds, and since its becoming fall, they will be ripe and ready to grow soon, so I will put all of them into a larger drip hydroponics system or a soil-less mix, and try and get a bunch of plants.

but for now I have to get a job and put my hobbies aside atleast knowing that my plants wont get too hot.

for anyone visiting my blog thanks for reading, and I will make a video of this new evaporative cooler and my plants soon!

New plant, New concepts

Ok well as said in the last blog I have two new plants, and I'm going to be growing these plants seriously, therefor I am keeping a written log, so if there is any week the plant has a growth increase I will know about it, I will know how I got it, and I will be able to continue the pattern.

I also want to build a computer that will run a web camera watching the plants, which will allow me to see and share the plants live without disturbing them. I would also be able to save a picture every day, and see actual growth.
ok so I bought 2 plants from a nursery's website. I got a regular plant like my old one but it is bigger with more branches, and I got a large leaf one which has some shipping damage, and maybe a nitrogen deficiency or something, because it doesn't look happy. both are in soil, and I will be taking clones once I get them to fill out more. they are in the closet garden for now, but once I build a filtered evaporative air cooler, they will be in the cabinet I made. I made some upgrades to the closet garden, including extra compact flourescents, and a blower fan pushing around 210 cfm threw it.

I plan on making more indoor gardens, and I hope to have many tea plants soon.

new

well I haven't posted here a long while, because a few weeks after my last post, the tea plant died, that clone never made it. I was pretty disappointed and just didn't post here for awhile, but I still love plants and I still want to make this work...

The large plant died of over fertilization, and I don't think that will happen again. the clone died because it never grew roots and just died.

also the climate under that 400watt light was instense.

since then I retired the 400w lamp to storage, and I did a little work on the garden, I am now using a range of comact flourescent bulbs and a 70w high pressure sodium to produce a lumen output of about 13000 (will confirm this # soon) and its a good step up from the brightness in the closet garden. I also added a swamp cooler to the cabinet It was growing it.

I have been buying seeds and have tryed different methods of germination and haven't got a tea plant, however I was able to germinate and grow what seems like hundreds of mint plants.
and I aquired a salvia divinorum plant which I was able to grow and clone successfully.

By growing those plants and experimenting with the plants growing around my house I gained a lot of knowledge that will help me to grow more tea.

I'm on the search for a tea plant, and I will probably end up buying a few strains of tea soon.
